Twice as many people favour diverting water from the River Shannon to Dublin than oppose the plan, according to the latest Business Post/Red C poll, despite opposition to the strategy from campaigners and Green TDs.

Some 45 per cent of respondents said they supported the strategy, as part of which the state’s water utility wants to build a 170km pipeline from Parteen basin to the capital to stave off shortages in the next decade.
