Susan McKay, the Press Ombudsman, has encouraged politicians to “seriously consider” using her office to pursue complaints against newspapers as a “powerful alternative” to launching legal action.

In her speech at the launch of the Annual 2022 report of the Press Council of Ireland and the Office of the Press Ombudsman - which outlined the “very great financial challenges facing the press” - McKay said that everyone was “entitled to go to law”.
