One of Ireland’s leading political academics has called for President Michael D Higgins to be “reined in” over his increasingly political comments.

David Farrell, the full professor of politics at UCD, and son of legendary academic and broadcaster, the late Brian Farrell, accused Higgins on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, of “setting a dangerous precedent”.
