The supply chain model that multinational companies operated before the Covid-19 pandemic is no longer fit for purpose, a senior leader at one the world’s largest medtech companies has said.

Mike Fairbourn, vice president and general manager of Becton Dickinson’s UK & Ireland business, said a shift is taking place in the medtech industry to nearshore supply chains and simplify where raw materials are sourced from.

“Covid-19 really disrupted our supply chains. I don't think we’ve known any disruption like it in modern history. And undoubtedly, the model that did exist pre-Covid has got to change. But we were already starting to do that anyway,” Fairbourn told the Business Post.
