Pfizer’s Paxlovid pill given emergency go-ahead by Europe’s medicines watchdog

The European Medicines Agency has approved Pfizer’s Covid-19 pill for emergency use, pending full approval by the EU.

Paxlovid has proven effective in preventing people becoming seriously ill with Covid-19 and is effective against the Omicron variant, according to Pfizer.

According to the EMA, data shows that Paxlovid reduced the risk of hospitalisation and death when treatment started within five days of symptom onset.
