Over 3,000 jobs at risk in Wales as Tata Steel plans to shut down loss-making furnaces

Tata Steel plans to shut down two loss-making blast furnaces in Port Talbot in Wales, after last year securing British government financing to convert the historic site into a production hub for recycled steel.

The steelmaker plans to make the announcement later on Friday, and expects the decision will lead to about 3,000 job losses across its UK operations, a person familiar with the matter said.
