Omniplex Cinema Group, the leading Irish leisure and entertainment provider, has announced its expansion into Great Britain with an investment worth more than £20 million (€23.3 million).

The group has acquired five existing locations in Birmingham, Ipswich, Sutton, Clydebank, and High Wycombe formerly belonging to the troubled Empire Cinemas chain, which collapsed into administration earlier this year.

Omniplex plans to open these five cinemas this week, with more locations set to be announced next year.
