Office of Public Works to take ownership of historic GPO

Building will remain in public ownership with 180 An Post staff to continue working there for the next 18 months

Ownership of the GPO is to transfer to the Office of Public Works as An Post accelerates its relocation from the historic building.

The Department of Communications is finalising legal documents to move responsibility to the OPW, which will be tasked with maintaining, upgrading and finding a new use for the building which served as the headquarters of the provisional government during the 1916 Easter Rising.
