The number of women in senior management at some of Britain's biggest companies has remained stagnant over the past two years, new research claims.

The study, conducted by KPMG and leadership consultancy YSC in collaboration with two gender balance advocacy groups, looked at the level of female participation in executive committees over the past two years.

It found that, while the number of women in positions at the rank below executive level had increased by 2 per cent to 25 per cent at FTSE 250 companies in this period, the number of senior female executives at FTSE 100 companies was unchanged, at just 17 per cent.
