Uisce Éireann, the semi-state water utility, has warned that the Dublin-Shannon water pipeline is needed to meet the state’s housing targets

Uisce Éireann hopes to deliver the Shannon-Dublin water pipeline by 2032

New homes in Dublin may eventually be refused water connections if crucial infrastructure projects such as the Shannon to Dublin water pipeline are not delivered, a senior executive at Uisce Éireann has said.

Angela Ryan, senior asset strategy manager with Uisce Éireann, was speaking at the National Infrastructure Summit on Thursday, where she highlighted how Dublin’s water system was stretched way beyond intended capacity.

“It’s not going great, to be honest,” Ryan told the audience.
