New border centres to hold migrants near airports
The new centres are part of the EU’s Migration and Asylum Pact and will fundamentally change the nature of Ireland’s asylum system
Thousands of migrants will be detained, processed and deported before ever gaining access to the state at new border centres which are likely to be located near airports.
International Protection applicants who meet certain criteria that makes them less likely to have a successful application will be put into this new “border procedure”.
