Health and migration are Irish voters’ biggest priorities ahead of the EU elections in June, a European Parliament survey has found.

Irish people are far more likely to be concerned about migration than their EU counterparts, with 42 per cent saying it should be “discussed as a matter of priority” during the election campaign, compared to just 24 per cent of EU citizens, the Eurobarometer survey said.

The bloc recently adopted a new migration and asylum pact that will oblige the Irish government — which is to opt in to the rules despite having an exemption — to build new reception centres to speed up the process for people seeking international protection.
