Micheál Martin has said the prospect of Ireland being used as a stop-off for US clusterbombs being sent to Ukraine “doesn’t arise”.

The Tánaiste said that Ireland remains opposed to cluster munitions and that it was a lead nation in the establishment of a global 2008 convention banning them.

Martin’s comments come after the controversial decision by the US to provide Kyiv with cluster munitions.
