Meta needs go-ahead from Irish data regulator on plans to charge for Facebook and Instagram
Data Protection Commissioner faces major call on on whether Facebook-owner’s subscription model complies with GDPR
Meta will need to get a green light from Ireland’s data watchdog if it is to proceed with its plans to charge users for the ad-free use of Facebook and Instagram.
The Data Protection Commissioner (DPC) is currently evaluating the firm’s plan to ask users to pay around €10 a month if they do not want to be served targeted ads on its social media platforms, to assess whether it complies with EU privacy laws.
