Meta defends subscription model after ‘wishy-washy’ rebuke from top EU data agency

Meta has insisted that its ‘consent or pay’ model is legal, after European regulators said it should not be the “default way forward” for Big Tech platforms.

The owner of Facebook and Instagram has been operating a subscription service in the EU since last November, under which users pay €9.99 per month for a version of its platforms that does not track their activity for advertising purposes.
