Mayo TD Alan Dillon has been elected the new chair of the Fine Gael parliamentary party replacing Richard Bruton who announced he was stepping down from politics at the next general election last month.

Dillon, the former Mayo football captain, was elected in a secret ballot by his fellow TDs and Senators at a party meeting on Wednesday evening.
