Jim Ratcliffe’s bid for a 25 per cent stake in Manchester United will give the football club an equity value of around $5.5 billion (€5 billion).

The British billionaire is understood to have offered a price of roughly $33-a-share for the stake in the famous old football club, which represents a 79 per cent premium on the average price the club’s shares traded last week on the New York stock exchange.
