Meta has told users in the EU they “need to make a choice” between paying €9.99 a month for the ad-free use of Facebook and Instagram or being targeted with personalised advertising.
The social media company, which has its EU headquarters in Ireland, has started issuing notifications to those using its platforms in Europe as part of a major shift in its business model, implemented to comply with privacy rulings by regulators.
