Macron’s challenge will be to heal the rifts in the country and muster support for his plans to make the country more competitive.

World leaders have congratulated Emmanuel Macron after his victory in the French presidential election which saw the 44-year-old centrist win 58.55 per cent of the votes against 41.45 per cent for far right rival Marine Le Pen.
