Leo Varadkar has said he “definitely” does not want an EU job, one day after announcing his retirement as taoiseach and leader of Fine Gael.

Asked on Thursday morning whether he is looking for a job in Brussels, he said: “No, definitely not. But thank you.”

Varadkar is attending a meeting of prime ministers belonging to the European People’s Party (EPP), Fine Gael’s centre-right EU umbrella group.
