League of Ireland takeovers kick off international investment in clubs here

Three clubs now have overseas owners while Irish billionaires hold stakes in a number of others, but losses are still mounting across football in Ireland

Within ten minutes of each other earlier this month, two League of Ireland clubs announced a takeover by an investor from North America.

It is a long way from Limerick to Vancouver, where Treaty United’s new owners Tricorps Pacific Capital are based.

Similarly, Birmingham, Alabama is not a city with which, until the recent takeover of Drogheda United by Trivela Group LLC, the Co Louth town would have been associated. Such deals, however, are fast ...
