Lawyer warns against ‘vilifying’ patients who bring cancer screening cases against HSE

Specialist barrister also says judges’ suggestions that expert witnesses are ‘guns-for-hire’ are completely without basis

A leading medical negligence lawyer has claimed the HSE’s narrative around court cases will “vilify” patients and said that recent comments by judges about expert witnesses are based on a “complete myth”.

Speaking on Law on Trial, the Business Post’s legal affairs podcast, Roger Murray SC, a partner in Callan Tansey Solicitors, said it was important, especially in the context of lawsuits arising from screening programmes such as CervicalCheck, not to blame the victim.
