IDA Ireland complained that Eamon Ryan was damaging Ireland’s “credibility” among multinational companies over his stance on data centres connecting to the gas grid.

The state’s inward investment agency criticised what it called the “uncertainty and conflicting signals from government bodies” over whether data centres can receive gas connections to power their operations if they have to come off the strained electricity grid.

In a hard-hitting submission to the Commission for Regulation of Utilities, sent last August, IDA Ireland called for clarification “without further delay” about the rules for data centres seeking gas connections.
