HSE to crack down on high earners as Gloster criticises ‘unacceptable’ salaries

The head of the HSE will tell politicians on Thursday that he “does not accept” that a number of consultants directly employed by the health service should be paid more than €500,000 annually.

The number of high earners at the Health Service Executive rose by more than 30 per cent between 2021 and 2022 with one being paid almost €1 million for their services last year, documents provided to the Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee show.
