Heather Humphreys named deputy leader of Fine Gael

Heather Humphreys, the Fine Gael minister, has been announced as the new deputy leader of the party.

The current minister for social protection and rural development takes over the role from Simon Coveney, continuing Simon Harris’ refresh of the party in advance of being named taoiseach by the Dáil.

Humphreys said she was “honoured” to take up the role, and she was looking forward to continuing the work set out on by Coveney.
