Government’s €14bn budget will add to inflation next year – ESRI

The independent economic research body said the recent budget was very stimulatory in nature and will add to higher prices in 2024

The government’s €14 billion giveaway budget in October will keep inflation higher than it should be next year, the Economic and Social Research Institute has said.

The independent think-tank estimates that inflation in the Irish economy averaged 6.4 per cent in 2023 and is forecasting this will moderate to 2.9 per cent for next year.
