Government weighs bringing RTÉ under remit of state financial watchdog

The government is weighing plans to have RTÉ brought under the remit of the Comptroller and Auditor General, the state’s financial watchdog, as controversy around the broadcaster continues to grow.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar told the Fine Gael parliamentary party meeting on Wednesday evening that the move is being “considered”.

The change could give the audit office powers over the broadcaster’s spending.
