Government u-turns on patent court referendum described as ‘disappointing’ and ‘shameful’

Government sources indicate that while a referendum will be held at a future date, it is unlikely to be held until the end of the year at the earliest

The government’s referendum on joining a new EU patent court has been deferred as expected.

The referendum was due to take place alongside the local and European elections in June, and would allow Ireland to join the EU’s Unified Patent Court (UPC).
