Government to send Defence Forces to assist Irish citizens in Sudan evacuation

Department of Foreign Affairs said earlier that it is in contact with more than 150 Irish citizens seeking assistance in Sudan as fighting entered its ninth day

The government has agreed to send Defence Force members to Sudan to assist Irish people attempting to leave the country after more than a week of widespread fighting in the region.

An incorporeal cabinet meeting was convened on Sunday afternoon where it was agreed that up to 12 members of the Irish Defence Forces would be deployed to the war-torn African country.
