Government rejected advice to make Airbnb enforce rental rules
A group of public servants had devised a strict system to enforce new rules designed to free up housing for the rental market in the midst of the housing crisis
It has emerged that the government ignored expert recommendations to ban short-term letting platforms like Airbnb from operating if they did not obey new rules.
Since last month, hosts on Airbnb and other sites have to register their property with their local council, and they can only rent out an entire property for a maximum of 90 days without requiring planning permission.
