The government has been urged to overhaul the country’s ethics framework and implement long-standing recommendations from the Standards in Public Office commission (Sipo) to strengthen its powers and resourcing.

In their submissions to the public consultation on the review of ethics legislation both Sinn Féin and Labour said it was regrettable that that Public Sector Standards Bill, introduced by Brendan Howlin in 2015, had not been progressed and called for it to be resurrected.
