Government extends AIB stock trading plan and plans further share sales in 2024

Michael McGrath, the minister for finance, said the state would continue to seek ways to reduce its stake in the bank further

The government currently owns just under 41 per cent of AIB, which required a €21 billion state bailout during the financial crisis

The government has extended its AIB share trading plan for another seven months until the end of July 2024.

On Tuesday, Michael McGrath, the minister for finance, confirmed the government will extend its AIB share trading plan into a fifth phase as the state continues to sell down its stake in the lender, which was acquired following a €21 billion crisis-era bailout.
