Former Jury’s site to become ‘beacon’ of US-Irish relationship as embassy confirms $171m purchase

The department informed lawmakers that it plans to buy the former hotel “in Dublin’s upscale Ballsbridge neighbourhood” for $171 million

The Business Post revealed in July that the 4.2 acre hotel site was the preferred option of the US government.

The United States government says it expects to finalise a deal for the former Jury’s hotel site in Ballsbridge by mid-March to make way for a new embassy in Ireland.

In December, the US government confirmed it was to spend nearly $700 million (€649m) on the purchase and redevelopment of the former hotel as it prepares to vacate its nearby premises which dates from the 1960s.
