The state’s timeline to deliver 5,000 apartments by 2026, through a €450 million scheme to subsidise construction, was labelled “ambitious” by property industry and banking sector lobbyists as the programme was being devised last year.

The Croí Cónaithe scheme, launched in May, will provide developers with subsidies of between €25,000 and €144,000 per unit to help subsidise the cost of building apartments.
