Expert group has ‘serious concerns’ over new consumer rights bill

A new Irish bill on consumer rights – hailed by the government as the “biggest overhaul of consumer rights law in 40 years” – requires “substantial change” if it is to deliver on its promises, politicians will hear tomorrow.

The Oireachtas committee on enterprise will be told that the bill does not adequately provide for the funding of new designated “entities” which will be allowed to take mass legal actions against businesses.
