Eurozone inflation up more than anticipated in June

Core consumer prices rose 5.5 per cent in the year to last month, up on estimates but still down from 6.1 per cent in May

Underlying eurozone inflation accelerated at a quicker pace than anticipated in June, cementing the interest-rate increase widely expected next week.

Core consumer prices, stripping out volatile elements like food and energy, rose 5.5 per cent in the year to last month, according to Eurostat. Although above than the preliminary estimate of 5.4 per cent and a reading of 5.3 per cent in May, this rate is the lowest seen since before Russia invaded Ukraine.
