European fire crews aid Greece as wildfires intensify
Temperatures in the south of the country Greece are expected to reach 44C by the end of the week, in the second heatwave to hit Europe’s Mediterranean south in two weeks
Fire crews from across Europe are travelling to provide assistance to Greece, where wildfires have intensified as relentless a heatwave is keeping much of southern Europe above 40C.
Four fire planes from Italy and France are already operating outside Athens, while Israel had pledged a further two firefighting aircraft. Three firefighting teams from Poland, Romania and Slovakia are due on Thursday.
