EU leaders finally agree to call for immediate Gaza ceasefire

They are also ready to sanction Iran’s drone programme and ‘a number’ of countries are in talks on recognising Palestinian statehood

EU leaders have finally called for an “immediate ceasefire” in Gaza, more than six months after the war began and almost a month after the UN adopted its own resolution on the matter.

In March, the bloc struggled to agree language on a ceasefire due to opposition from Hungary, Austria and the Czech Republic, and ended up calling for a “humanitarian pause”.
