ESB taps international bond markets to raise €1bn debt for green projects

Semi-state energy firm says bonds will be used to help it reach its net zero by 2040 target

ESB, the semi-state energy company, has raised €1 billion in new debt from the international bond market to fund its multi-year capital investment programme.

The energy company, which recently reported a 90 per cent increase in half year operating profits to €676 million, said it will use the funding to invest in additional smart metres for Irish households, battery storage to support the energy grid and new solar and wind generation assets.
