Enda Kenny, the former taoiseach, has joined the board of an Irish company looking to raise a first tranche of €10 million for a rocket launch facility to deliver telecommunications equipment into low-earth orbit.

Kenny is a director of Suas Aerospace, which was founded by Rory Fitzpatrick, the founder and chief executive of the National Space Centre, a private company that provides ground services for satellite operators and owners such as Elon Musk’s SpaceX.

Fitzpatrick told the Business Post that the company, Suas Rockets Teoranta, was about to go to the market to raise the first €10 million ”to allow us to get through proof of concept stage”.
