Wholesale electricity prices rose 12.3 per cent in January, but remained more than a third cheaper than at the start of last year.

Prices had fallen by more than a quarter in December compared to November, according to figures published on Thursday by the Central Statistics Office (CSO). Prices were down two thirds in December compared with the previous year.
