Electric vehicles charged to a fifth of new car registrations in the country in 2023

There was a 45 per cent rise in the number of new electric vehicles registered last year in the state compared to 2022

A fifth of new car registrations in 2023 were for electric vehicles, new data from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (Simi) has shown.

Last year, there were 22,789 new electric cars registered compared to 15,678 the previous year, a 45 per cent rise year on year.

In comparison to 2019, the number of new car buyers opting for electric vehicles in a calendar year has dramatically increased by almost 562 per cent.
