Economic cost of Dublin’s traffic jams ‘to reach €1.5 billion by 2040’

The findings will increase calls for congestion charges to be implemented in the city centre

The economic cost of congestion in the greater Dublin area is set to soar from an estimated €336 million to €1.5 billion by 2040, a stark new report by the Department of Transport has found.

The “real cost” of congestion to society in Ireland is also likely to be “significantly higher” as the study could not estimate the entire cost of additional emissions, local air pollutants, and adverse health outcomes.
