Draft law on facial recognition technology to be published

Minister says legislation will help gardaí trawl through thousands of hours of CCTV when investigating serious crimes

The government is to publish its draft law on facial recognition technology (FRT), which will be used for offences including violent disorder following the Dublin riots.

The Minister for Justice has said the aim of the Bill is to help gardaí “trawl” through thousands of hours of CCTV when investigating serious crimes.
