A new survey by the CCPC shows almost a third of Irish households are planning to borrow money to pay for Christmas this year

Household spending this Christmas is set to decline by double-digits, while almost a third of consumers plan to borrow money this year to cover the cost of presents, food and drink for the holiday season.

New research by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) has found that the average household spend this Christmas is set to fall by 13 per cent to just over €1,000 – down from almost €1,200 last year.
