Public expenditure minister Paschal Donohoe has all but confirmed he is not a candidate to head the International Monetary Fund (IMF), admitting there is now no “vacancy”.

Bulgaria’s Kristalina Georgieva is set to get EU backing for a second term as managing director of the Washington-based fund in a vote on Tuesday, after indicating her interest and securing the backing of large EU members Germany and France.
