Datalex’s Taggart falls on sword

A statement, three remarks from the floor, a unanimous vote approving a €6 million loan: the egm of the once-mighty, now-troubled Datalex was over in a flash, and left few clues as to what went wrong. Ian Guider reports

In a basement meeting room of the Clontarf Castle Hotel on Dublin’s northside, the number of journalists, photographers and cameramen easily outnumbered the handful of people who turned up for an egm of shareholders in the troubled software company Datalex. The shareholders were there to give the seal of approval to a cash lifeline from the financier Dermot Desmond, a long-term backer of the company.
