The Central Statistics Office has announced plans to develop a new measure of Irish economic performance following the controversy last year over 2015 figures which showed that Ireland’s gross domestic product (GDP) has grown by more than 26 per cent.

The figures were described at the time as‘leprechaun economics’ by US economist Paul Krugman.
