The Minister for Enterprise spoke to the company about its data protection practices after it insisted it would never share users’ data with the Chinese state

The Irish government contacted TikTok, the Chinese-owned social media giant, to discuss its data protection rules after the European Commission banned the app from its work devices.

Responding to queries from the Business Post, a spokeswoman for the Department of Enterprise confirmed that Simon Coveney “convened a call” with the company on March 1 over how it protects users’ personal information.
