Hundreds of patients fitted with allegedly defective hip implants are ineligible to take part in a compensation process established by the High Court last year.

More than 1,000 proceedings were initiated in Ireland against DePuy International after the company’s ASR and ASR XL orthopaedic products were subject to a worldwide recall in 2010. DePuy is a subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson.
